EU Nature Credits Roadmap

Overview Summary

The Roadmap outlines the European Commission’s plan to develop a credible, science‑based market for nature credits that can mobilise private investment to support biodiversity protection and ecosystem restoration.

Scope of Coverage

The EU Nature Credits Roadmap affects any activity linked to ecosystem restoration, biodiversity outcomes or nature‑positive land and seascape management.

Affected Entities

The EU Nature Credits Roadmap is not limited to a single industry. Instead, it spans multiple sectors whose operations directly impact or depend on natural ecosystems:

– Primary land and sea-use sectors: agriculture, forestry, fishing and aquaculture, land management and local communities
– Industrial and commercial sectors: retailers, consumers, infrastructure and construction, energy and utilities and financial sector and investment services
– National and local authorities
– EU Member States

What This Means for Companies

Companies will need to prepare for emerging nature‑related disclosure and investment expectations by mapping their biodiversity impacts, identifying potential nature‑positive interventions and gathering high‑integrity ecological data to support future certification under the EU’s two‑step model of biodiversity certification and crediting. Meo Carbon Solutions helps companies evaluate project eligibility, assessing land‑use activities with our partner Global Risk Assessment Services (GRAS), supply chain hotspots and design early‑stage pilot projects so they are ready to participate in the emerging EU nature credit market as it scales toward 2027.
